Code of Ethics

Standards that protect beneficiaries, partners, and our integrity.

Purpose

Digital Safe‑Havens Network (DSN) commits to the highest standards of professional integrity, impartiality, and respect for human dignity. This Code applies to staff, volunteers, contractors, board members, and advisors (“Personnel”).

Core Principles

  • Do No Harm: We prioritize the safety, autonomy, and informed consent of those we serve.
  • Integrity & Honesty: We avoid deception, fraud, and misrepresentation.
  • Impartiality: Services are provided without discrimination or political favoritism.
  • Confidentiality: We protect sensitive data, sources, and methods.
  • Accountability: We welcome oversight, audits, and legitimate scrutiny.
  • Professional Competence: We act within our expertise and seek peer review when needed.

Expected Conduct

  • Comply with laws, DSN policies, and partner obligations.
  • Disclose conflicts of interest and recuse when appropriate.
  • Respect beneficiaries and colleagues; zero tolerance for harassment or exploitation.
  • Safeguard assets and resources; prohibit bribery, kickbacks, or improper gifts.

Data & Security Ethics

  • Collect only necessary data, minimize retention, and apply least‑privilege access.
  • Use secure channels and vetted tooling; forbid unauthorized monitoring or intrusion.
  • Obtain informed consent before assessments or data handling.

Reporting & Enforcement

Suspected violations may be reported via ethics@digitalsafehavens.org or through the Whistleblower Policy. Retaliation against reporters is strictly prohibited. Violations may result in corrective action, up to termination or referral to authorities.
